WHAT WORKS IN SANITATION? Help us find literature on delivering sanitation interventions in India
WES-Net and the Institute for Fiscal Studies are undertaking a literature review of all existing research around the delivery of sanitation services in India. We would ask you to send us any references relating to what determines successful delivery and uptake of sanitation interventions in India such as those targeted by the Total Sanitation Campaign.
Send any literature or references electronically to desk@wesnetindia.org. If you would like to send literature in hardcopy instead, please let us know and we will forward you an address.
The literature review is being prepared for use by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Govt of India.
Our key research questions are:
- Why are the guidelines working in some states but not in others, even though the guidelines are the same?
- What is distinct about well-performing states with respect to poor-performing states?
- What is driving variation across a single state in take up of sanitation services?
- What community characteristics and dynamics drive the take up of sanitation services, and what role does leadership play?
- To what extent does the type of organization delivering sanitation services matter?
- How do the implementing agencies interact with different community characteristics and leadership structures in the delivery of sanitation services?
Any literature relating to these topics would be warmly welcome.
Thank you for your assistance in advance.
